Annotation
The article examines the main positions presented in the Russian historical and legal literature regarding the interaction of church and state in the Russian Empire in the field of law. Based on the conducted research, three main directions are identified: the place of the Orthodox Church in the state mechanism; the influence of church norms
on the development of branches of law; the role of the church in the formation of legal tradition. It is emphasized that Orthodoxy acted as part of the state mechanism, and its conceptual attitudes influenced the development of state, family, civil, criminal, and procedural law during the imperial period. The role of Orthodoxy in the formation of the value foundations of the Russian legal tradition is determined.
