Annotation
The paper examines the theoretical legacy of Jeremy Bentham in terms of its significance for the development of pension legislation in the UK. The legislation of the 19th century is taken as a basis, and the normative acts of the previous and subsequent centuries are also partially affected. The conducted research allows us to draw conclusions
about the significant influence of the principles formulated by Bentham on the processes of developing and applying the so-called new legislation on the poor (first of all the Act of 1834), which was the forerunner of the pension law of 1908.
