Annotation

The article examines the functions of the penitentiary system, analyzes the relevance of the implementation of the functions facing correctional institutions. In the course of the research, general scientific methods were used: comparative law, induction, deduction and synthesis. A formal logical general scientific method was applied. In addition, the methods of legal and technical analysis, as well as the system-structural method were applied. As a result of the application of the above methods, the provision on the penitentiary system was justified, which combines approaches to the execution of punishment, correction of convicts and prevention of crimes, taking into account the achievements of penitentiary science and practice, as well as real resource opportunities. The necessity of searching for and introducing new means of correctional influence on convicts in modern conditions is argued. It is concluded that the Russian penitentiary system continues to develop and improve, striving to achieve high standards of execution of criminal penalties. Innovative approaches to working with convicts are being introduced in correctional institutions, and the correctional process is being improved.
