Annotation

The relevance of the study is caused by the need to develop specialized legal education in modern Russia. The need for training practice-oriented personnel is especially great at the present time. The purpose of the study is to identify the origins of Russian specialized education and analyze the organization of the first educational institutions that trained specialists for the judicial system. The research methodology includes dialytic historicism, analysis, synthesis and other methods of formal logic, as well as special legal research methods. As a result, the role of Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum in the rise of specialized legal education was substantiated, and the first educational institution that trained lawyers for work in court or at School of Law was revealed. The authors come to the conclusion that many of the teaching principles applied at school, such as the specialization of education, on the one hand, and the development of erudition and amplitude of thinking, on the other, remain important components in the formation of modern educational standards.
